Profession to be consulted regarding proposed residential real estate practice guidelines and amendments to the Rules of Professional Conduct
The profession will be consulted on proposed changes to the Rules of Professional Conduct and new residential real estate practice guidelines. The changes to the Rules include amendments aimed at reducing the risk of mortgage fraud.

Bencher Remuneration
Convocation decided that under the new bencher remuneration plan, benchers, other than benchers appointed by the provincial government, will not be permitted to accept compensation from an external organization to which they are appointed as a bencher. They will instead be compensated for this work in accordance with the bencher remuneration plan.

The new bencher remuneration plan was adopted by Convocation in September 2005 with the exception of paragraph 'G' dealing with appointments to external organizations which was deferred until November Convocation.

Recommendation to the FLSC: National Licensing Program
Convocation agreed to recommend to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada that the Federation begin to study the feasibility of a national licensing program.

The budget for the Task Force on the Rule of Law and the Independence of the Bar was approved by Convocation as were changes to the authorized signing officers for the Law Society.

By-laws 8, 11, 12 and 15 amended
By-laws 8 (Convocation), 11(Call to the Bar and Enrolment as Solicitor), 12 (Bar Admission Course) and 15 (Annual Fee) were amended by Convocation to reflect the new call to the bar and licensing process approved by Convocation in September 2005.
