Continuing professional development requirement supports professional competence
The governing body of the Law Society approved a continuing professional development (CPD) requirement of 12 hours per year for practising lawyers and licensed paralegals who provide legal services. "The introduction of the CPD requirement confirms both the Law Society's commitment to regulation in the public interest and the commitment of lawyers and paralegals to providing the highest level of service to clients," says Law Society Treasurer W. Voters' Guide now available
The Voters' Guide for the first Paralegal Standing Committee Election is available online. The Voters' Guide provides voters with information about the candidates running for the five paralegal seats on the committee. Online voting opened on March 4, 2010 at 9 a.m. EST, and closes at 5 p.m. EDT on March 31, 2010. Eligible voters received an email from Computershare on March 4, containing their personal voter identification number and instructions. Voters can cast up to five votes in total, but may vote for a candidate only once and may only submit their votes once.

LEAF marks Women Equality Day: April 15, 2010![]()
In celebration of Equality Day and the 25th anniversary of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) and the equality provision of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, LEAF will be recognize the contributions of lawyers who have made a difference for women and have contributed to LEAF's success. Nominations must be submitted to LEAF by March 19, 2010.
