New regime for lawyers from Quebec and Territories of Canada

On November 24, 2011, Convocation approved a new regime for lawyers from Quebec and the Territories of Canada to appear in Ontario on an occasional basis.

Lawyers from Quebec and the Territories who intend to practise law in Ontario on an occasional basis must now submit an application for a permit. Occasional practice permits entitle lawyers from Quebec and the Territories to handle not more than 10 matters each calendar year for an annual application fee of $100 plus HST. Lawyers from Quebec and the Territories must obtain a permit before practising law in Ontario.
