David Morris selected to lead next phase of paralegal regulation review

Mr David J. Morris of Kingston has been selected to lead the next phase of the Five Year Review of Paralegal Regulation. The Law Society welcomes this appointment and looks forward to providing Mr. Morris with any assistance he may request.

In June, the Law Society of Upper Canada presented the Attorney-General of Ontario with a report on the Five Year Review of Paralegal Regulation, as required under subsection 63.1 (2) of the Law Society Act.

The Act also requires that a person who is neither a lawyer nor a paralegal be appointed to review the regulation of paralegals in Ontario and provide a report by November 1, 2012. Mr. Morris will lead this review.

The Law Society's report included opinion surveys, conducted by an independent consultant, of paralegals and clients of paralegals. Mr. Morris will consider this report while doing his own assessment and analysis and making his own recommendations.
