Complete your CPD Hours by December 31

Time is running out to complete your 2014 CPD hours. You must complete and report your hours by December 31, to avoid a $100 late fee and referral for suspension.

 

Remember to enter hours in the LSUC Portal early, as high traffic near the deadline may result in slower response times.

Consultation welcomes input

The Law Society is hosting a series of 10 public open houses throughout the province this winter regarding its consultation paper Developing Strategies for Change: Addressing Challenges Faced by Racialized Licensees.

 

Interested paralegals are encouraged to attend and join in the dialogue. The open houses are each accredited for 1 CPD Professionalism Hour.

New Standard for Paralegal Accreditation and Audit

College accreditation standards for paralegal programs have recently been enhanced, as approved by Convocation.

 

These include enhancements related to program co-ordinators, faculty, class composition, course sequence, assessments and field placements.  Full Story

Licensing examination enhanced

The Law Society is enhancing the paralegal licensing examination by introducing substantive law questions.

The new examination will be broader and will have questions set with the same rigour and fairness as the current paralegal licensing examination and will launch in August 2015.

Seneca wins 2014 Paralegal Cup

Congratulations to Seneca College on winning the 2014 Paralegal Cup during the second annual Intercollegiate Mooting Competition.

Annual reports available in Portal starting January 2

Paralegals and lawyers may access their 2014 Annual Report through the LSUC Portal beginning January 2, 2015.

The annual report is due by March 31, 2015.

Licensees who fail to file their annual report by May 30, 2015, will be charged a $100 late fee and be subject to administrative suspension.

Other important 2015 dates are available online.

Electronic annual fee billing implemented

New for 2015, paralegals and lawyers will receive their Annual Fee invoice through the LSUC Portal.

Paralegal reception

The Law Society welcomed newly licensed paralegals to the profession at a reception on November 19.

Held twice each year, the event provides new members with the opportunity to network with other new licensees, benchers, and members of the judiciary.
