Purpose
Under By-law 8, Part II all lawyers must file a Lawyer Annual Report to the Law Society by March 31 each year. By-Law 8, Part II requires the Report to be filed in an electronic format specified by the Law Society.
Who This Applies To
Law Society lawyers must submit an Annual Report in order to maintain their licence.
Reporting Requirements
- E-file a complete Lawyer Annual Report at https://portal.lsuc.on.ca by March 31st each year
- Ensure that Client Service Centre has updated contact information including telephone/fax numbers, and mailing/email addresses for business and home
- Under By-Law 8 Part II, if a lawyer is unable to e-file the Report, they must apply each year to the Society for an exemption from the requirement to file electronically and request that a paper copy be faxed, e-mailed or mailed. Call (416) 947-3936 (toll-free within Ontario 1-800-668-7380 x3936) for information on how to apply.
Non-compliance
Failure to submit the Lawyer Annual Report by March 31st each year will result in administrative suspension for non-compliance. See the Administrative Suspension page for more information.
Review Process
The By-Law Administration Services department reviews all paper reports for incomplete and/or blank responses. If a report is incomplete, an BAS Representative contacts the lawyer to request additional information.
Amendments to annual reports must be submitted in writing along with a signed disclaimer giving permission to amend the Annual Report.
E-filing the Lawyer Annual Report saves time and ensures that all responses are complete before the form can be submitted.
