The Law Society of Upper Canada administers the J. S. Denison Trust Fund.
J. Shirley Denison was a former Treasurer of the Law Society, well known for his great interest and contribution to the work of the Society. Under the terms of his will the residue of his estate passed to the Law Society for the relief of indigent Barristers and Solicitors and their families.
The Law Society has the authority to make awards from the J.S. Denison Trust Fund to impoverished or indigent lawyers, disbarred lawyers and students in the Licensing Process (including spouses, widow(er)s and children), from the interest and capital of the Trust, in lump sums or periodic payments as it sees fit.
