How-To Briefs

The How-To Briefs have been prepared by practitioners and are designed to assist licensees in understanding and applying procedures and practices applicable to various areas of law. The How-To Briefs area starting point only and are not a substitute for the licensee's own research, analysis and judgment.

The purpose of the sample documents included in the How-to Briefs is to provide examples of the types of documents that may be required to complete a matter or transaction. The sample documents are not intended to be used as standard documents in all files. A licensee should consider the circumstances of the individual matter or transaction and choose and recommend to the client the course of action that best suits the file.

The Law Society of Upper Canada does not provide substantive legal advice or opinions, nor does it endorse the methodologies outlined in the How-to Briefs for determining the appropriate steps for a particular file or matter.
