Part IV of By-Law 7 allows lawyers and licensed paralegals to join with an affiliated entity in the delivery or promotion and delivery of the services of the licensee and the services of the affiliated entity.
Who can form an Affiliation
All licensees who wish to form an affiliation with a non-licensee may submit a Notice of Affiliation.
Initial Notice Requirements
- Submit a completed Notice of Affiliation
- Submit copies of any written arrangements and/or affiliation agreements
Ongoing Notice Requirements and Non-Compliance
Affiliation Reports will be mailed to licensees and must be completed and returned by January 31 of each year.
Failure to submit the Affiliation Report could result in administrative suspension.
Notice Review Process
Notices of Affiliation and attachments are reviewed by Complaints & Compliance. If the review reveals that the Notice of Affiliation is incomplete, Law Society staff will contact the licensee to request additional information or to advise of recommended changes.
Complaints & Compliance requires a minimum of 15 business days to process either the initial Notice of Affiliation or the Affiliation Report, if they are complete.
Licensees will be notified once their Notice of Affiliation has been reviewed.
There is no fee for submission of the Notice of Affiliation or the Affiliation Report.
