The governing body of the Law Society of Upper Canada today approved a 2011 budget that strengthens its regulatory processes and maintains support to the profession. The budget provides for modest increases of $49 to the annual fee for lawyers and $24 to the annual fee for paralegals.

Two recipients of a prestigious Human Rights Watch award were honoured at a breakfast hosted by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Liu Xiaobo, winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, and Hossam Bahgat were among the six 2010 recipients of the Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism.
